An outline planning application for the first phase of Northern Gateway has been submitted to Rochdale and Bury Councils. This marks a key milestone for the project, which sits within the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone and is being brought forward by the Northern Gateway Development Vehicle (NGDV) — a partnership between Russell LDP and Harworth Group.
The submission covers up to 6.5 million sq ft. of space for advanced manufacturing, logistics, and industrial use, alongside supporting infrastructure, green open spaces, retail and leisure, and a hotel. It’s expected to support up to 10,000 jobs and deliver around £630 million in annual economic value to the wider region, with £20 million in business rates each year to support local services.
This follows a public consultation earlier this year, which saw over 100 attendees across events in Bury and Heywood, as well as feedback online. A Consultation Report has been submitted with the outline application, reporting the feedback received.
Once validated, the application will be available to view on the Bury and Rochdale Council planning portals. We’ll share the reference numbers here and via our mailing list as soon as they go live.
Thanks again to everyone who took part in the consultation.
